Separation Agreement Summary

Separation Agreements

Many couples choose to resolve their issues related to the break up of their marriage through a Separation Agreement.  If a Separation Agreement is drafted carefully and well, it can avoid issues down the road as life unfolds.  Separation Agreements are contracts that address property issues, spousal support issues, estate issues related to marriage, pet issues, children issues, tax issues, and other issues specific to each family.  The benefit to a Separation Agreement is that it can be narrowly tailored to meet your families’ needs.  Beware of downloading generic Separation Agreements online.  Each state has specific requirements and saving a few dollars now can really cost a lot down the road if life happens.  North Carolina courts can be quite strict in setting aside a contract so do not sign a Separation Agreement without consulting with an attorney who practices family law as a part of their regular practice.
