Today many couples marry later than they did twenty years ago. Most couples have a career before they marry. Many families are blended families with children from previous relationships prior to the marriage. Prenups are not designed to encourage divorce. They aid couples by determining issues such as property rights or Alimony at a time when reasonable minds are present. Prenups are contracts to determine who gets what if a couple’s marriage is one of the 50% that result in divorce. An analogy often used is a prenup is like car insurance—no one plans to be in an accident but you are glad you have insurance if an accident happens.
